Household Hazardous Waste & Pharmaceutical Waste - Lewis County

To ensure the North Country disposes of their wastes properly , the Development Authority of the North Country and the three counties have used their partnership to collaborate Household Hazardous Waste & Pharmaceutical Waste collection days. There are at least five collection days a year and are typically in both the spring and fall.

What is Household Hazardous Waste ?

What is Pharmaceutical Waste ?

These are products that can be found in your home that can catch fire, react or explode under certain circumstances, be corrosive, be toxic, and may be dangerous to human health. It is vital that we limit the usage of these products, as well as dispose of them the correct way (not in the landfill) as an environmentally sustainable practice. The image below is a guide to the sponsored Household Hazardous Waste & Pharmaceutical Waste events.

In Lewis County, Household Hazardous Waste Events are scheduled for:

  • September 7, 2019 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Lowville County Transfer Station, 7956 NYS Rt 26, Lowville, NY 13367

Any medication that is outdated, unusable, or not needed is labeled as this kind of waste. It is important that medicines are disposed of properly as they can contribute to substance abuse issues, along with harming the environment. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has a complete map of medication drop-off locations, which can be accessed here .
