The following materials are accepted for recycling at all Tri-County Transfer Stations
(Jefferson, St. Lawrence and Lewis Counties).
Plastic
- Plastics with symbols 1-7 on the bottom
- Containers should be empty and rinsed
Glass
- Bottles & Jars (No need to separate by colors)
- Containers should be empty and rinsed
Metal
- Tin food cans
- Aluminum food & beverage cans, aluminum pans and foil
- Containers should be empty and rinsed
Mixed Paper
- Office & copier paper
- Junk mail and envelopes
- Newspaper
- Magazines & catalogues
- Shredded paper
- Telephone books
- Paperback books—No hardcover books
- Paper grocery bags
Cardboard
- Corrugated cardboard boxes, flattened, staples removed
White Goods

Items that are not accepted as Recyclable (Dispose of with regular trash)
- Styrofoam products
- Cardboard with wax, plastic, Styrofoam or metal coatings
- Soiled cardboard such as pizza boxes
- Paper cups, plates, tissue & toilet paper
- Hardcover books
- Carbon paper
- Plastic grocery bags (most stores will collect for recycling)
- Windows, plate glass, mirrors & broken glass
- Dishes and drinking glasses
- Ceramic dishes, clay pots, etc.
- Light bulbs
- Automotive oil containers
