The Development Authority of the North Country has funds available to launch some pilot food waste composting programs for local schools. The Authority will assist the school in developing a program, provide staff training and purchase an appropriate composting vessel. If your school would like to reduce the amount of waste it generates, produce a usable fertilizer material and educate students about environmentally friendly alternatives to landfilling waste, contact Jan Oatman, Regional Recycling Coordinator at joatman@danc.org. This program is available only to schools in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence Counties.
