Carthage Central School District's Global Environment Class Tours Landfill

Maureen Weaver's Global Environment class toured the Development Authority of the North Country's Solid Waste Management Facility in Rodman, NY on May 26th.  The class is comprised of juniors and seniors who must have completed or be enrolled in Regents Chemistry. It is a college level course. Part of the focus in the class is the importance of using our resources in a way that is sustainable to future generations and solving environmental problems by making value judgements based on knowledge of scientific fact.  By viewing first-hand the truck loads of waste that are disposed of in a landfill, the students were able to gain a better understanding of the magnitude of waste we generate and how they can make choices in their life to reduce, reuse and recyle and the impact it will have on future generations.  Shown below are the students that toured the landfill, along with Mrs. Weaver (far right).
